FOCUS

Mr. Berman’s practice focuses on medical malpractice, asset protection for physicians, and the formation of captive insurance companies. He defends hospitals, medical centers, physician groups and individual physicians in medical malpractice cases, and has particular expertise in cases involving catastrophic loss, products liability and compliance issues. Mr. Berman also consults and advises with hospitals and other health care facilities on restructuring risk management processes and compliance issues.

Mr. Berman is national supervising counsel for two privately held captive insurance collectives and is vice-president of captive “incubator” Midwest Consultants, where he works with pending and existing projects, assisting doctors and hospitals in forming captive insurance companies.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Mr. Berman has authored or co-authored multiple publications and has authored, edited, presented and/or co-presented multiple lectures covering a range of topics in medical malpractice, including "Great Expectations - Avoiding a Medical Malpractice Lawsuit"; "Risk Management Concerns in Obstetric Nursing Practice;” “The Medical Studies Act and Petrillo Doctrine”; "How to Practice Medicine in a Suit Oriented Culture"; “Medical Studies Act Compliance”; “Discovery Practice for Doctors”; “Ensuring Compliance – The Illinois Medical Studies Act“; Legal Preventative Care for the Medical Professional”; “Ensuring a Successful Practice In Today’s Healthcare Environment - Approaches to Managing Professional Liability Risk”; "Institutional Liability- Modern Medical Malpractice Litigation"; "Telemedicine: Medicine in the Coming Century," "Telemedical Practice: Liability Concerns;" "Telemedicine: Caselaw Applied"; "Telemedicine"; and “Medical Malpractice.” Mr. Berman is a member of the Chicago Bar Association.

EDUCATION

Mr. Berman is a 1998 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law. He received his undergraduate education at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and was admitted to the bar in 1998.
